DACA Recipient Accused Of Murdering Teenage Girl

High school student Diana Martinez-Gonzalez was working hard to graduate next year. Unfortunately, the 11th grader was denied this privilege after she was shot to death by Daniel de Jesus Rangel-Sherrer, an illegal immigrant. Sherrer drove Martinez-Gonzalez into a wooded area, and shot the teen multiple times.

Sheriff deputies found the victim’s body after receiving a tip from a friend, who said that Sherrer had shot Martinez-Gonzalez. She led deputies to the into the woods near the Saluda River. They quickly discovered the murdered teen’s body, and arrested Sherrer after he admitted to shooting the victim.

He said that he killed the teen because he was angry that she had been spreading lies and false rumors about him. A sheriff’s deputy referred to the shooting as “pure evil.”

Martinez-Gonzalez had other injuries in addition to gunshot wounds, but police declined to say what those injuries were. Investigators also noted that Sherrer had kidnapped another victim and held her against her will. Fortunately, she had managed to escape.

Sherrer is being charged with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and kidnapping.

U.S. immigration officials confirmed to national media that the suspect is an illegal alien. The 19-year-old suspect is currently in the United States through the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA.

Former President Barack Obama started this program back in 2012. It allows young undocumented immigrants, nicknamed “Dreamers”, to be shielded from deportation. Under this policy, illegal immigrants who came from the United States as children are allowed to remain in the country and work or attend school. Nearly 800,000 undocumented youth are in the DACA program, which apparently does little to nothing to vet participants.

President Donald Trump announced back in September that he would be dismantling the DACA program, referring to it as illegal amnesty. The program is no longer taking new applications, and it will be phased out for current recipients. However, Congress has a six-month window to save the policy.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced an end to the program in September, saying all current DACA recipients permits would expire before March. 5th, 2018. DACA recipients were given a chance to apply for a two-year renewal.

Trump has faced a lot of opposition to his decision to end DACA. Liberal lawmakers say that it will cause many people to lose jobs. However, Sessions said that the program amounts to “unilateral executive amnesty.” He also referred to the program as unconstitutional, and said that it yields “terrible humanitarian consequences” by giving American jobs to illegal immigrants. Sessions added that there is nothing compassionate about failing to enforce immigration.

Opponents of the President’s plan to end DACA say that getting rid of the program is “mean-spirited” and that it “punishes the innocent.” They say that DACA recipients, referred to as Dreamers, have worked hard to stay in the U.S. and have brought many significant benefits to the United States. However, as this crime shows, this is probably not true for all recipients of DACA.

The Sherrer case is not an isolated incident. Breitbart News reports the number of gang members and convicted criminals in the DACA program is “staggering”. The website compiled a list of DACA recipients accused of various crimes, such as domestic violence, weapons charges, sex offenses, alien smuggling, burglary and more.

Allowing these illegal immigrants to remain in the U.S. is a serious public safety concern. Although it would seem that Dreamers accused of these serious crimes would be deported, that is not always true. One Dreamer, Cinthya Garcia-Cisneros, was convicted in 2014 of felony hit and run after she killed two young step-sisters ages 6 and 11, who were playing at the time that they were hit by Garcia-Cisneros. In spite of being convicted of murder, a judge denied her deportation and Garcia-Cisneros was allowed to stay in the United States.

A judge denied Sherrer’s bond at the first hearing. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has issued a detainer for him. He will remain incarcerated at the Greenville County Detention Center until his next hearing.
