Is Bernie Sanders Running for President Again in 2020?

Senator Bernie Sanders, Independent-Vermont, surprised many with his competitive race against former State Secretary Hillary Clinton in the 2016 Democratic presidential primary.

If Clinton hadn’t have had such close ties to the Democratic National Committee, the self-avowed socialist may have defeated her. Now, the question on political pundits’ and Sanders’ scores of adoring supporters’ minds is will he or won’t he run for president in 2020? A scheduled trip to the state of Iowa on February 23, 2018 may be a hint that he will.

Sanders will appear at a rally in the Hawkeye State for a former campaign aide, Pete D’Alessandro, who is vying for a congressional seat as a Democrat. D’Alessandro stated, “Bernie knows that we need bold, progressive leaders in Congress if we’re going to change the direction of our country.”

Sanders’ former aide also said, “That’s why I’m proudly supporting Medicare for All, a $15/hour living wage, and free college tuition for those who work hard…we can take our country back and continue the movement Bernie started here in 2016.”

The importance of a trip to Iowa by a potential presidential hopeful doesn’t go unnoticed. Therefore, many people are speculating Sanders’s February visit to the state is a sign he still hopes to be the next President of the United States. This trip will be Sanders’s third one to the purple state since his disappointing 2016 defeat to the former first lady in the Democratic primary election. Dave Weigel, writer for the Washington Post, tweeted, “he’s running,” and posted a link to a piece reporting about Sanders’s visit to the Hawkeye State.

At the end of last month, Clarence Page, columnist for the Chicago Tribune, stated on a broadcast of The McLaughlin Group, “I predict Bernie Sanders is going to run for president again, unless somebody among the prospective candidates on the Democratic side comes closer to his way of thinking. He’s going to jump into it again.”

Page wasn’t confident Sanders, who would reach his 79th birthday before the 2020 presidential election, would prevail. He said, “I’m not going to say he is going to get the nomination.” and “I think his appeal is overrated in that regard. But, he could have a big impact.”

The Vermont Senator’s scheduled visit to Iowa will occur about a month after he summoned a team to examine the possibility of a 2020 presidential run. On January 20, 2018, Sanders discussed the viability and shape of a potential 2020 campaign with his top political advisors in Washington D.C. Sanders’s advisors reportedly assured him he would be one of the front-runners for the Democratic nomination if he were to decide to run. They urged him to start the planning process if he has any inclination to be the next President of the United States. According to several Democrats, Sanders hasn’t formally made a decision about 2020, but he feels getting rid of President Trump is the most important thing for the country. Sanders also allegedly wants to be ready if he elects to run.

During the meeting, which was specifically scheduled to coincide with the one-year anniversary of Trump’s inauguration, Sanders and his advisors contemplated what the 2020 Democratic field might look like. Numerous Democrats close to the socialist emphatically insisted the session wasn’t only about planning for the 2020 presidential race. Jeff Weaver, the Vermont Senator’s campaign manager, said, “The senator is extremely focused on making sure the Democrats win in 2018 and that is the primary goal right now: to retake the House and retake the Senate so we can stop this horrendous Trump agenda.”

Senator Sanders’s constant, vehement attacks of Trump might also be an indication of his desired plans to claim the White House in 2020. On February 13, 2018, the Socialist excoriated White House Budget Director Mick Mulvaney regarding Trump’s budget proposal while Mulvaney testified before the Senate Budget Committee. Sanders condescendingly said, “Director Mulvaney, tell me about the morality of a budget which supports tax breaks for billionaires, throws 32 million people off of the health insurance they have, resulting in the deaths of tens of thousands of fellow Americans.”

During a January 19, 2018 interview with MSNBC, Sanders belittled Trump by saying, “I think it is an international embarrassment, we have a president who has driven the respect that this great country has all over the world down lower than it has ever been.” As many in the Democratic Party move even further to the left, the self-proclaimed Socialist from Vermont’s chances of securing the Democratic nomination in 2020 continue to improve.

  1. We will see how smart Americans are in 2020. Communist America or conservative.
Just notice that B. Sanders is trying to run a typical democratic campaign, hiding his 100 percent socialist push and ideals. And, to see what America would be Like under his regime, look no further than Venezuela (State of California is closing in to).

  2. Has anyone told the Bern that a socialist agenda will not work in America? What happens when there are no more Americans to fleece in order to pay for his programs. His entire agenda would crash and burn. Like his policies, he is a “has-been”. By the way, what about the federal investigation about his wife lying to a commercial bank in order to get a loan for her college? That is bank fraud….most people go to jail for those crimes. When you utter a fraud or false statement to bank in order to induce them to make a loan, that is a crime. The first lady in the big house….and interesting picture.

  3. I hope Bernie Sanders runs for President, the Dems need another Communist in their Camp of millions. What will this loafer offer, more giveaway’s to potential minority voters. Fine keep it up Bernie hater of America. Thief in the night along with your wife, what a combo.

  4. Since Bernie came out of the last campaign with a couple of millions $$ homes and plenty of left over campaign $$. He is just filling up his coffers again. Just a good communist Dem….

  5. Sanders is not running for THE PRESEDENT, HE IS RUNNING FOR DITATOR OF A SOLISTIC COUUNTRY. He just made a comment that CHRISTIANS ARE OFFENDING TO MUSLIMS. WELL MUSLIMS ARE OFFENDING TO AMERICA.

  6. Sander’s economic policy would quickly prove to be an unmitigated disaster. He literally wanted to double the national debt. We are on the cusp of drowning as it is. He would sink us all for sure.

  7. I’not college educated like ‘OLD’ Bernie, but, WHO is going to pay for this ‘FREE ‘ college education??? Just not sure that the colleges in this USA are going to do it for ‘free’. My guess would be the taxpayers AGAIN . And as far as world respect, it has been on the rise this past year because of a leader who really cares about this country instead of theirselves ,like good ole BERNIE. Our world respect was on the decline when the sex-molester started his 8 year tenure and got worse the 8 years ‘Bama was in. DRAIN THE SWAMP of the BERNIE Sanders NOW.

  8. Bernie, you are an embarrasement to this country. go and run in Venezuela, you will have a better chance of winning there than trying to run again here, but if you want to turn out to be a two time loser, like Hillary, be my guest, fool!

  9. Every time this man opens his mouth, I’m surprised that brown spittle doesn’t come out of it!! He is so full of it, with his Communist ideas!! We are a REPUBLIC — NOT a REGIME!! I refuse to live in a Country such as North Korea, China, Venezuela, or Russia!! If that’s the lifestyle he wants, it would be much easier for him to move, than to force his beliefs on Citizens who are against what he wants, except for some dumb kids who don’t know any better!! It’s time for that old man to go out to pasture and just watch the world continue from his $600,000 beach house!!

  10. I hope he has a lot of money. The DemonRAT party is now broke, and in debt. I never heard the out come of his wife’s illegal dealings. If she’s in jail, she can’t help him tell lies, and offer all the free stuff he can’t pay for. The only people that will vote for the socialist curmudgeon are the I want free stuff crowd.

  11. Hey Republicans: You’ve been LIED TO about Socialism. It’s a good thing. Most of the European countries are Socialist, and their standard of living is high, and their freedoms aren’t restricted.

Listen to Bernie’s goals: Health care for all, a living wage, free college tuition to all students, do you disagree with any of them?

The right-wing tries to pretend Socialism is the same as Communism and tells other lies. Think for yourselves, people!

  12. Never wanted Bernie for President. Just didn’t think that it was right that the democrat primary was rigged for Hillary. It appears that every body and their brother or sister are throwing their hat in the ring for the next democrat presidential primary. So far none of them are worth a plug nickel. It should prove to be very entertaining or a really big farce.

  13. Utter waste of time. Hard left socialism is not in Americaa’s DNA. He made a fool out of himself the 1st time around with being ousted by Hillary’s dishonest moves.

  14. The disintegration of the Democrat Party continues. The ongoing adoration heaped on this self-styled professional politician will be too much for him to abandon. Yes, Crazy Bern will make another attempt in 2020. This is all he’s ever done and as long as his ‘brand’ remains a viable commodity for the MSM, they’ll prop him up. Look for GrannyPants and Plugs Biden to also join the fray. So, sit back and enjoying watching the 2020 Democrat candidate menagerie as it starts to evolve. It’s certain to be a virtual rogues gallery of leftist wack jobs.

  15. You don’t expect a Commie to quit do you. Why don’t these Jerks go live in a country where they can practice their Commie plans.

  16. Bernie is 76 – retire already! What happened to younger people running with new ideas? These old guys need to get out and give new people a chance.

  17. He likes socialism so much perhaps he should be appointed ambassador to one of the socialist countries so he can get a close up look at how it doesn’t work. As for as him being elected President; NEVER!

  18. If the DNC didnt screwed him over in favor of killary, he would be our POTUS without a boubt. Millenials who are used to having everything handed to them love him. Sadly this is where this Country is headed.

  19. Bernie Sanders had the most comprehensive, user friendly plan of any of the candidates in 2016! His platform was the true “populist” program that was geared to help all Americans, workers, middle-class and especially the poor and marginalized , not just the top 1%!
Most of the comments I’ve seen here use useless labels and insults that show gut-felt ignorance of the real issues Bernie addressed better than any candidate ! As for paying for his programs, let’s get a really fair tax code where everyone is paying their fair share !

  20. One more comment ! Even the wealthiest man of all just said today, that he is greatly UNDERTAXED! Right on Bill Gates!
