California Governor Signs Job-Killing Law Banning Gas-Powered Cars

Liberal extremists cheered California Governor Gavin Newsom for effectively killing 140,000 jobs. The far-left Democrat recently signed a law the bans the sale of new gas and diesel-powered vehicles by 2035.

“Of all the simultaneous crises that we face as a state…none is more forceful than the issue of the climate crisis,” Newsom reportedly said while posing in front of electric vehicles. “What we’re advancing here today is a strategy to address that crisis head-on, to be as bold as the problem is big.”

The ban on gas vehicles appears to be a tactic to distract residents from the devastating impacts of other so-called green initiatives. Moving away from gas-powered electricity plants, the Golden State suffers routine blackouts and brownouts because “sustainable” energy cannot keep the lights on. Wildfires rage across the West Coast and many point to the state’s ban on clear-cutting practices as a primary cause. Before banning logging, wide swaths of trees were cut for building materials and paper products, among others. With no gaps running through forests, wildfires accelerate and firefighters at put a strategic disadvantage.

“The debate is over around climate change. Just come to the state of California. Observe it with your own eyes. It’s not an intellectual debate. It’s not even debatable any longer,” Newsom continued, sidestepping responsibility for the wildfires. “This is a climate damn emergency.”

Perhaps the Democrat may want to blame the country’s highest number of COVID-19 infections, the highest rate of homelessness, and double-digit poverty rates on climate change as well. The reality is that left-wing policies such as banning automobiles have a direct impact on the diminished quality of life of Californians.

“If you want to reduce asthma, if you want to mitigate the rise of sea level, if you want to mitigate the loss of ice sheets around the globe, then this is a policy for other states to follow,” the governor added. “Pull away from the gas pumps. Let us no longer be victims of geopolitical dictators that manipulate global supply chains and global markets.”

The Trump Administration rejects barreling headlong into another faulty liberal policy that eliminates jobs. Before the pandemic, President Donald Trump and the GOP leveraged America First policies to reduce unemployment to a 50-year low of 3.5 percent. African-American and Hispanic unemployment hit all-time lows while the U.S. poverty rate reached its lowest point in recorded history in 2019. Eliminating car dealership jobs were not part of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.

“They want the government to dictate every aspect of every American’s life, and the lengths to which they will go to destroy jobs and raise costs on the consumer is alarming,” White House spokesman Judd Deere wrote in a response email. “President Trump won’t stand for it.”

The ban will also include reportedly include hybrid vehicles that comprise about 50 percent of energy-efficient vehicles on the market today. Commercial vehicles will be expected to run at zero emissions, a standard that is impractical if supply chains are to remain open.

Governor Newsom’s ill-conceived mandate serves as an educational tool that liberals simply have no idea about the struggles of working families, nor do they care.
