Recent threats by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to oust Mayor Bill de Blasio demonstrate the Democratic Party’s constant infighting between left-wing radicals and law-and-order moderates.
Mayor de Blasio may be the most hated mayor city official in the nation. In the midst of violent riots sweeping the country, his failed leadership drew the ire of fellow Democrat Governor Cuomo. The rift highlights the reality that liberal extremists such as Mayor de Blasio are open arms to left-wing anarchy while the few moderates such as Cuomo are political outsiders.
“The NYPD and New York City mayor did not do their job last night. I think the mayor underestimates the scope of the problem and the duration of the problem. What happened in NYC was inexcusable,” Cuomo said. “My option is to displace the mayor of New York City and bring in the National Guard as the governor in an emergency and basically you would have to take over the mayor’s job.”
The far-left mayor reportedly declined to have National Guard troops support New York police officers’ efforts to contain widespread violence, looting, property damage, and arson. Mayor de Blasio, who many police officers consider a disgrace, failed to even implement a reasonable curfew to help law enforcement control the city’s streets.
“New York City put on an 11:00 P.M. CURFEW last night,” President Donald Trump tweeted. “No wonder they ripped the place apart. CALL UP THE NATIONAL GUARD.”
Nationwide polls indicate that Americans favor National Guard troops supporting local police departments to quell violent unrest. Even according to notoriously liberal Morning Consult polling data, 66 percent of those polled favored sending in the troops, with only 27 percent opposed. Among all voters, 58 percent want National Guard action against 30 percent opposed.
The division between Cuomo and de Blasio highlights a national problem with the Democratic Party. After upstarts such as New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), the so-called “Squad,” and extremists hijacked the party’s vocal leadership, supporting left-wing street violence and fringe radicals such as Antifa has become fashionable. The New York mayor’s repeated attacks on NYPD and law enforcement, in general, earned him a place among Democrat hopefuls for the presidential nomination.
By contrast, Governor Cuomo remains far too “moderate” to secure a nation post. His prompt apology to New York’s finest after his emotionally-heightened reaction to a city under siege stands as a roadblock in the party.
“Last night (Cuomo’s) office called and apologized to me, and I know he called the commissioner directly to apologize,” New York City Police Chief Terence Monahan reportedly said. “I hope he would come out publicly and say that again today during his press conferences because the men and women of this agency have done a remarkable job in probably unprecedented times.”
Although New York City descended into chaos, officers reportedly made upwards of 500 arrests. They were simply overrun by thousands of rioters, and not given the National Guard reinforcements necessary to manage the escalating violence.
National Democrats such as presumptive presidential nominee and former Vice President Joe Biden criticized law enforcement, claiming their methods and attitudes were a systemic problem. The former Obama-era number two has shifted to the radical far-left to secure the nomination.
The Democrat infighting in New York demonstrates the party has no room for moderates, leadership, or law and order. Governor Cuomo’s threats are idle, at best, because liberal zealots would oust him from the party if he followed through.
I think both Governor Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio of New York need to be ousted from office and elect Republicans in that state because both of them are idiots. Cuomo killed thousands of senior citizens in nursing homes with the coronavirus and de Blasio will not defend his citizens during riots and Antifa antagonist.

What NYC needs is a Vaccine against One Party Rule in the City. What NY State needs is a vaccine against Progressivism. To get these, change the rules and make voters support their candidates. No outside money form anywhere. At the State levels, institute and form of the Electoral College. Eliminate the ability of NYC to dictate policy for the State. Then, follow the Texas model. 1) State Government only meets 7 months every other year. 2) Balanced Budget with a built-in Rainy-Day fund of (X%). 3) Weak Governor. All legislative responsibility is the Veto. 4) Lieutenant Governor is basically the Speaker of the House and introduces all legislation, elected by vote with the same process as Governor. So, when someone needs to show the folks back home they are doing what they said they would do, they can bring a bill to the LT. Gov. If he says no, then Oh, well. If it goes forward and it gets passed, then it goes to the Gov., then he asks which program is being killed to afford this? If there is a plan, then he can sign. If not, he just vetos it. Either way, the state stays healthy and the Government stays in check. By the way, they still only have 7 months to get all of the budgetary and department business done before the lunacy starts. Then they have to go home and live in their own districts. Again, the work of old wise guys.
