In a move that clearly demonstrates that the Democratic Party is embracing fringe far-left candidates and leaders as it best hope against current President Donald Trump, the California Democrat Party has opted to endorse left-wing California Senate candidate Kevin de León over party loyalist Senator Dianne Feinstein.
Feinstein, who has served in the Senate since 1992, has undoubtedly moved to the left on political issues since the time she was elected, but is still viewed as a centrist in comparison to many others in her party. In fact, many of her positions are not all that different from those held by moderate Republicans. While Sen. Feinstein has questioned the legality of the DACA program instituted by former President Obama, and has declared her opposition to a single-payer health care system, Kevin de León has admitted that many members of his family are in the country illegally, has called for ICE to be abolished and is an avid proponent of a single-payer health care system.
The California Democratic Party’s decision to formally endorse de León is certain to boost his run for the Senate. It will give him name recognition that he sorely lacks, and encourage donors to fund his campaign. However, in the long run, the odds of de León beating incumbent Senator Feinstein are slim to none. The only reason that he can even run for the Senate in the first place is that California has a “jungle primary” law that allows the two candidates who get the most votes in the primary to run on the state ballot even if the two candidates are from the same party. Senator Feinstein came in first with over 44% of the vote, while Kevin de León came in a distant second with just over 12% of the vote.
It is unlikely that Kevin de León will gain more voters, as those who approve of his policies have likely already voted for him during the primary season, and those who voted for other candidates are Republicans who would not agree with León’s far-left ideology.
However, there are a couple compelling reasons why the California Democratic Party’s endorsement of Kevin de León should not be taken lightly. First of all, it shows that there is a very real rift in the Democratic Party that is sure to become even more pronounced as time goes by. While it is to be expected that party leaders and long-term Democratic politicians would have more control over their party, the endorsement shows that there are many Democrats who are willing to go against official party wishes in order to bring about drastic change and move the party further left.
Sen. Feinstein, along with other party leaders, had asked the California Democratic Party to remain neutral instead of endorsing a candidate; such a move would have demonstrated party unity. DNC leaders not only ignored Sen. Feinstein, but also paid little attention to the fact that the incumbent Senator also has the support of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and other important party members in Washington. It has also been noted that the endorsement will affect other races by encouraging those who want to move the party to the left to keep up their efforts. Left-wing candidates and donors throughout the United States have now gotten the message that it is now OK to defy the status quo.
While Sen. Feinstein is almost certain to win her bid for a fifth full Senate term, the fact that her own party in California would clearly prefer her far-left rival is cause for concern. It may not affect the current Senator’s political ambitions, but it does show that a sizable minority of voters in the state prefer a far-left platform to a centrist one.
The growing liberal enthusiasm for ideas such as a single-payer health care system, drastic gun control, the abolishment of ICE and a raised minimum wage is sure to impact Democrats who wind up running for the 2020 election as they will need to choose between catering to party loyalists and relatively new party members and activists who want to see real, drastic change.

I’ve lived all my life in So California.It’s incredible,how much this state has gone fascist,since about 1980.It’s all due to immigration of poor people,who vote for more stuff from govt,due to not paying for it.As a result,we are overcrowded,lots of homeless everywhere and led by crazy Democrats.Dems have licensed 1 million illegals to drive.They have put all the children of illegals on Medicaid.They propose some massive govt healthcare welfare program,that would cost 1/2 Trillion Dollars.I have a friend,who is a lifelong Democrat and school union rep.Says they are extreme in Sacramento.They complained that Obama was too conservative.Please don’t let this happen to your state.
I grew up in California back in the sixties and seventies, and let me tell you, that was an entirely different world. I left in 1977, I could see then that the southern, and coastal areas were making a hard left turn. Now, especially with all the foreign invaders, it’s closer to being Venezuela than a part of the United States. I still have a number of relatives there, including a sister, and while they live in the more sane areas of the Northeastern Sierras, I have told them I will not go there as long as the state is under the control of communists!

Democrats want to cover all the illegal votes cast for Hillary and other Dems in CA. Millions of illegals voted in 2016. Many thousands of Dreamers across the country also voted in the last election. Early in the fall of 2016, Obama addressed a DACA gathering and agreed with the young lady host that all who live here should be called ‘citizens’ because they ‘contribute’ to society.
Always one to choose his words carefully, Obama went on to say “When you vote – you are a citizen.” He explained they could vote without fear because voter rolls are not cross referenced with INS data bases. Thousands did.

It is sickening when these politicians can openly admit they have family members illegally in the country. No wonder so many of them support open borders. I don’t know anyone with a functioning brain can think that allowing thousands of uneducated, non-English-speaking foreigners who will take away jobs from American citizens who do those low-paying jobs. They keep saying how much they add to the country; but just exactly how? They take advantage of taxpayers and use up resources that cost taxpayers dearly. California is already turning into a giant slum with homeless people living on the streets. Since California is so anxious to bring in thousands more people, how will this help the already desperate situation?
