New York Times “Fact Checker” Used Racist, Homophobic Slurs on Twitter

Troubles continue for the New York Times, according to recent reports from Breitbart. The newspaper has a recent history of making headlines of its own, for all the wrong reasons. The latest issue concerns yet another employee, this time a fact checker.

New York Times researcher and fact checker Gina Cherelus was quick to delete the questionable tweets she made last week – but not before multiple users grabbed screenshots and posted replies.

Newsmax host John Cardillo was able to snap some screenshots before the New York Times staffer could delete them. There are quite a few, peppered with complaints about white people, Latinos and Asian people. She also used terms like “faggot” and “dyke”, managing to slur as many groups as possible in just a few short tweets.

According to Cardillo:

“WHOA, @nytimes fact checker @jeanuh_ has a nearly decade long history of reprehensible racist and homophobic Tweets”

He then shared a variety of screenshots that showcased some of the Times’ staffer’s thoughts on white people, Asians and other groups. She was particularly vocal about Asian women and men working in nail salons; creating curse-laden tweets complaining about their race, skills and abilities.

As far back as 2012, Cherelus was sharing racist thoughts: “Asian nail salons,” saying “they feel f—ing entitled” and “don’t know anything but basic ghetto s—.”

“I’m not saying all Asians aren’t able, but this can really cause you to make hasty generalizations,” Cherelus wrote.

She mentioned Hispanics as well, referring to another Twitter user as a “wetback” in a series of Tweets. Others did not escape her wrath; white people are “clueless” and generally inept:

“Some white people really just don’t get it… Trying so hard to argue against something you JUST DON’T GET,” one screen shot shows, while another reads “These white folks man… Lol.”

The recent staffer tweets are just the latest in a string of embarrassing events at the Times. Just last week, the paper was forced to run a correction on a piece it ran about Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. The original article claimed that an eyewitness saw the Justice assaulting someone as a freshman at Yale; it turned out to be a false story, and the Times ended up apologizing and retracting the piece.

Other visible Times problems include racist and anti-Semitic comments spanning over a year on Twitter, posted by political editor Tom Wright-Piersanti. This employee is in charge of providing readers with unbiased political news, but regularly makes anti-Semitic remarks on his own Twitter stream. He’s not alone: editorial board appointee Sarah Jeuong was also criticized for her racist tweets about white people on various social media.

As long as the New York Times continues to condone racist and homophobic behavior and to run “news” stories against conservatives without checking the veracity, the ethics of this long lived publication will be in question.
