Just when you thought the feud between the NFL, President Trump and patriotic Americans had faded into the sunset, it’s back again. Yes, the huge debate over whether NFL players have to stand and show respect for our national anthem has started up again.
Why?
Reversing Course
First, the NFL just the other day announced that they were not going to move forward after all with their policy that would prohibit NFL players from kneeling on the football field during the national anthem while that music sounds at the beginning of each NFL game.
In May, which was very recent (can’t the NFL make up its mind?), the NFL had introduced a policy that would deal with the problem of players kneeling or doing anything other than standing respectfully during the national anthem. The punishment would subject an offending team “to a fine if a player or any other team personnel do not show respect for the anthem…That includes any attempt to sit or kneel, as dozens of players have done during the past two seasons. Those teams will also have the option to fine any team personnel, including players, for the infraction.”
What happened to cause the NFL to suspend its poilicy? The Miami Dolphins had just announced that they would “suspend and/or fine players who protest during the national anthem,”
Trump Responds to the Nonsense
Needless to say, President Trump was not happy about that seemingly unpatriotic decision by the NFL. Indeed, Trump has been very vocal ever since the national anthem controversy started months ago when an NFL player decided not to stand up for the national anthem. That one player’s attitude and actions, in turn, led player after player throughout the NFL and across the country to kneel or in some other way not show respect during the national anthem.
So what did Trump do to show his displeasure? As he often does, he used Twitter to express his views:
“The NFL National Anthem Debate is alive and well again – can’t believe it! Isn’t it in contract that players must stand at attention, hand on heart? The $40,000,000 Commissioner must now make a stand. First time kneeling, out for game. Second time kneeling, out for season/no pay!”
The NFL Needs to Wake Up
It’s no wonder that Trump is disgusted with Part 2 of the NFL controversy. It’s really very plain and simple, after all. NFL players should stand and show respect during our national anthem. The NFL leadership should agree, and should punish any players who are disrespectful, such as by kneeling or in any other way clearly disrespecting our flag and all the great things our country stands for.
The NFL needs to get decisive and also needs to express a much more pro-American attitude. But if they don’t, they will likely continue to lose in a major way. They will continue to lose viewers, as droves of people have already stopped attending or watching NFL games. The NFL will lose revenue as they lose viewers and game attendees (aka ticket buyers). They will lose a tremendous amount of respect, on top of the respect they’ve already lost as so many people have turned away from them. It will be interesting to see whether the NFL decides to wake up or do more of the same.

If ALL of us that respect the flag will NOT attend a game this season, they will change. But not until the loss of their jobs will they get the picture.

The disrespect from the NFL players has ruined the Sport and I have no interest in watching the games or purchase any team apparel. They earn a living from the fans and most of them respect and honor the flag, so if they want to be unemployed and doing nothing that’s what could happen to the overpaid NFL players and Teams for not respecting our Flag and Country.

If you want NFL fans and other “Caucasians” to respect your unstated problem and leave it open to conjecture than you deserve to have a problem. Your apparent problem is that you cannot begin to appreciate what this protest has come to mean to America-at-large. It is true for all of us that life matters, not just one race or another. Brutality is more than physical violence against one race or another. It includes the ignorance of some versus the mutual appreciation of what the American flag stands for and the men and women who have protected this countries’ interests here and abroad. Somehow I get the strong vibe that you were not one of those who stood up and did their part on behalf of this nation. Well I did it for nearly thirty years and then I taught young men and women what I learned.

I agree Don – I’m surprised some Marine, Soldier or Sailor haven’t gone down on the field and punched them out in front of everyone! You can’t force people to be patriotic. I learned pride for my country early on in school and I know what a blessing it is to be born in and live in the best country in the world. I don’t understand how people think it benefits their cause by ticking off more than half the country.

It’s a shame that this country’s National Pride has fallen to the level that some Patriots feel we have to resort to such law making or enforcement. Liberalism has played a key role in the defecation of American spirit and National pride.

You have just alienated millions of active duty, retirees, and former military personnel. I served this country 30+ years in the Army and love pro football very much. I served 3 tours of duty in Vietnam and I will NOT watch any game where due respect (kneeling) is not afforded to the US NATIONAL ANTHEM. GO Jerry Jones and COWBOYS.
Hi George, there are millions of retired military and there are millions and millions of us who love and respect our soldiers – ALL of them – that will be tuning out too. We did last season and I see no reason to pick back up this season. Someone should play Taps for the NFL.
I spent over $12,000 to “purchase my seats” in the stadium last year plus $4,400 for four season tickets. I may have wasted $12k but I’m not wasting another $4,400 for tickets to watch stupid behavior. A job is a job. Once your put on the uniform, you work for someone else (including the fans). The government needs to cut the string that has been supporting the new stadiums, up grading existing stadiums, parking lots. For some reason these stupid men playing a boys games have not realized that the people of these United States of America are the ones that are paying the outrageous salaries. These are the ones purchasing tickets to attend in person for the games, merchandise to wear to the games, paying extra for cable TV to have the Sport Channels so they could stay home and watch game.
Maybe, just maybe when all this stops dead in the water, they (players, coaches, owners, and stupid commissioner) would see a tinkle of daylight. Without money, they are going NO WHERE, except in the soup kitchens lines, welfare lines, the unemployment would run out shortly (if they paid any to this tax). Guess what, all these over paid people will become JUST EVERY DAY PEOPLE AGAIN. No fake glory, no money to show off, all properties (real and personal) will have to be SOLD to put food on the table and pay rent on a small house or apartment. They will have to apply for a real JOB, that’s if they qualify for the position for which they are applying. Maybe, just maybe they would understand the real meaning of the Anthem and the Veterans (past and present) who fought to have the freedom here today.. IF, they are not interested in the freedom, then I do not know anyone who would stop them from leaving this great country to find another country to live the way they choose. I’m first generation in the US my father became a American citizen during WWII I served in the USMC I have a son who served in the Army. I now have 3 Grandsons in the Marines and Granddaughter in the Army we stand. I’ve also stopped watching the NBA several years ago because of their obnoxious and spoiled behavior. If I had any doubts about my decision, it was affirmed when LeBron arrogantly announced that the championship winner would not be going to the White House. Seth Curry echoed his sentiments. I think you have to be invited before you can turn down an invitation.
This will get interesting the next time some NFL team wants a new stadium for its immature players that want to use someone else’s paid TV and stadium time to push their personal agendas, and wants a city’s taxpayers to pay for it.
