Once upon a time, the growth of the company, the success and happiness of its employees, and the service it was providing to its customers were always the top priorities of company executives. Even those businesses where profits mattered above all else were somewhat easy to sympathize with — the entire purpose of a company, after all, is to profit.
For Google, though, one of the largest and most successful companies in the world, trivial things such as profits and innovation must not be allowed to get in the way of the company’s newfound purpose of pushing a leftist agenda at all costs.
In a ten-page memo recently published by a number of fed up Google insiders, employees described a work environment where they were grilled about their political ideologies and had their careers threatened if they didn’t step in line with the company’s own, highly liberal beliefs.
Just as disconcerting as this employee mistreatment is the fact that Google, a company that is supposed to be helping drive the world forward with cutting-edge technological innovations, doesn’t seem to be too focused on such things these days.
“Hal”, an alias used by one of the Google employees, said that, “A lot of social justice activists essentially spend all day fighting the culture war, and get nothing done. The company has made it a point to hire more people like this. The diversity gospel has been woven into nearly everything the company does, to the point where senior leaders focus on diversity first and technology second.”
Hal also went on to say, “The companywide ‘Google Insider’ emails used to talk about cool new tech, but now they’re entirely about social justice initiatives. Likewise, the weekly all-hands ‘TGIF meetings’ used to focus on tech, but now they’re split about 50/50 between tech and identity politics signaling.”
As for why a tech company feels the need to spend so much energy on political and social “issues” is anyone’s guess. For Google, though, directing staggering amounts of attention towards their leftist agenda shockingly just isn’t enough; they also take it upon themselves to swiftly and unmercifully crush any person within the company that so much as questions their new initiative.
That’s right: a company born out of radical new ideas is now doing everything they can to make sure every person they hire fits within a cookie cutter mindset.
“Several [conservative employees] have been driven out of the company or fired outright for sharing a dissenting view,” Hal added. “Others have had their promotions denied or suffered other forms of deniable retaliation. Most of us just keep our heads down because we can’t afford to lose our jobs.”
For those of us who don’t work for Google, the implications of this dictator-level censorship are every bit as disconcerting. Consider the fact that the internet is far and above the most comprehensive source of information humanity has ever had. Our sum total of knowledge and opinions is contained within it. And, serving as the primary gatekeeper for all this information and wealth of thoughts and opinions, is Google…the same company that is currently doing everything it can to crush free speech and differing opinions within its workplace.
Sure, there are other search engines available, and should censorship become a real problem we can hope that people will switch to these other options en masse. If they don’t though, or if they fail to realize that Google is carefully spoon-feeding them only the info it wants them to see, entire groups of people could be left in the dark when it comes to any viewpoint that doesn’t fit within Google’s leftist worldview.
The good news is that information is spreading about the current environment within Google, and this is the first step in forcing them to correct their missteps. Google needs to know that their actions are not going unnoticed. Perhaps even more importantly, Google shareholders need to know just how their money is being spent. It seems as if those with a personal stake in the company wouldn’t be too thrilled to find out that the world’s leading tech giant is spending all its time and resources playing politics and engaging in leftist witch hunts.
