Sen. Lindsey Graham Takes Dems to Task on the Second Amendment

South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham has a burning question he wants the media to ask every Democratic politician. While he believes Democrats don’t want to be forced to answer truthfully, the Senator’s inquiry is a simple one: do they want to see the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution repealed?

Since February 14, 2018, spirited demands for gun control have been made by politicians, celebrities, young people, and others across the country. On this day, a former student mercilessly gunned down 17 souls at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. An additional 17 people were wounded. The casualties included 14 students and three faculty members. Pro-gun control Parkland students, along with their supporters, have commanded Congress to do something about gun violence. Their plethora of ideas consist of registries, bans on particular firearms, and prohibitions on gun sales. On March 24, 2018, the movement took to the streets of Washington D.C. and other major cities in the form of the March for Our Lives.

Some of those involved in this recent push for gun control have went so far as to call for a repeal of the Second Amendment. The latest notable person to do so is former United States Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens. Notoriously liberal, Stevens dissented in the case of D.C. v. Heller. This significant case declared the Second Amendment protects individuals’ rights to possess a firearm. As a part of his dissenting opinion in the case, Stevens wrote the right to bear arms is a collective one rather than an individual one. The former Supreme Court Justice wasn’t alone in his views about D.C. v. Heller. Three other justices also dissented with the majority opinion.

On March 27, 2018, Stevens heralded the efforts of the pro-gun control Parkland students in an op-ed for the New York Times. Regarding the March for Our Lives demonstrations, Stevens said, “They reveal the broad public support for legislation to minimize the risk of mass killings of schoolchildren and others in our society.” He stated that the groundswell was “a clear sign to lawmakers to enact legislation prohibiting civilian ownership of semiautomatic weapons, increasing the minimum age to buy a gun from 18 to 21 years old, and establishing more comprehensive background checks on all purchasers of firearms.” But, the former Supreme Court Justice didn’t think these measures go far enough. In fact, he said the current wave of anti-gun supporters should “demand a repeal of the Second Amendment.”

Stevens insisted that worry about a national standing army posing a threat to the security of individual states drove the creation of the Second Amendment. Revealing how preposterous he thinks the Second Amendment is now, he said, “Today that concern is a relic of the 18th century.”

The former Supreme Court Justice maintained that “it was uniformly understood” for more than 200 years after its adoption that the Second Amendment didn’t place any limits on both state and federal authority to pass gun control legislation. He commented that this assumption changed with the D.C. v. Heller decision. Concerning the decision, Stevens remarked, it “has provided the NRA with a propaganda weapon of immense power. Overturning that decision via a constitutional amendment to get rid of the Second Amendment would be simple and would do more to weaken the NRA’s ability to stymie legislative debate and block constructive gun control legislation than any other available option.”

On March 27, 2018, Graham told Fox News’s Martha MacCallum on “The Story” that he hopes liberal politicians will be coerced to reveal to the public whether they agree with the former Supreme Court Justice’s op-ed, the call to end the Second Amendment in particular.

Referring to Stevens, Graham said, “I’m glad he’s retired. He has a right to his opinion like every other American, but I’m up here to protect the Second Amendment, not repeal it.”

Realizing how the issue might make Democrats in battleground states squirm during an election year, the senator stated, “I can’t wait to hear what Nancy Pelosi says and every other liberal Democrat. See if they will stand with Justice Stevens or they’ll stand with the Constitution. I’m dying to know.”

  1. Nice to see that Senator Graham, a former JAG attorney, is calling out left wing loon Democrats (sorry for the redundancy) and asking them to pubicly state their opinion about the 2nd ammendment. And, for the morons who don’t think it applies to ‘individuals’, the Supreme has already ruled on that issue, twice.

  2. We already know the Socialist Democratic Party lies & denies; who would trust one! As far as Sen. Lindsey Graham is concerned…..I do NOT trust him or McCain, McConnell and a few other RINO’s !!!
America………….please VOTE in 2018 elections; President Trump is relying on us to retain the House & Senate, even more so !

  3. Some people may not want firearms in their homes and that is their choice, and some people do not believe in God and that is their right. When their home is invaded they will do two things, call someone with a firearm and pray they get there in time. When seconds count the police are just minutes away. I, personally, am at DEFCON 1 although the Country appears to be a DEFCON 2 or 3. I predict that who cherish freedom the most have the most to lose. Those who do not know freedom will not know when it is gone, the Government will take care of them.

    1. I am in full agreement with your post David, its common sense to be at DEF CON one, but most are as you stated. Most don’t actually get it. We are in bad times and it’s it’s not going to get any better if we don’t fight back. Their mission is to get rid of all of us that knew freedom, once gone all that will be left are the indoctrinated ones.

  4. All governments choosing to disarm the people do so to have totalitarian rule. The framers of the Contitution established the Second Amendment to assure “the People” would never be forced into subserviance.

  5. NO ONE WANTS TO DISARM ANYONE. CEASE LISTENING TO THE TRUMP RETORIC AND LIES. PLUS HE NEEDS THE RUSSIAN MONEY TO CONTINUE SELLING OUT AMERICA

    1. Hey Sterling — Don’t worry, just a little more than 6 years left of President Trump —
Then you can whine all you want about the next 8 years of “President Mike Pence”. MAGA!!!

    2. its NOT the Trump rhetoric we should stop listening too its LIBTARD snowflakes like you and your complete Commie Globalist propaganda [ quote- No one wants to disarm anyone ] which is complete BS because it’s the LIBTARDS that scream the loudest to take away OUR GOD giving rights of self defense , you seem like one of those “run and hide” morons , instead of a true American that would Stand your Ground and defend yourself from all threats Foreign & Liberal Democrat

    3. We need no more laws about guns. #1. Murder is illegal. #2 Stealing is illegal. one more comment: How many people are stupid enough to take a knife to a gunfight? Seems like there are a lot of them…

  6. To amend the US Constitution requires the following.

Pass the House with a 2/3 majority.
Pass the Senate with a 2/3 majority.
Pass the State Congress with a 3/4 majority or 38 states.

States that will not be in the 3/4 majority.
Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Arkansas. Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Alaska, Michigan, Wisconsin, Montana, Idaho,
    Minnesota, There is probably more.

  7. What part of “The right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed” do they not understand? What part of “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches seizures, shall not be violated and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation , and particularly describing the place to be searched, and persons or things to be seized.” do they not understand?

  8. Inforce the oath of office They are not.
A Federal Crime! Violating Their Oath; cause for removal from …
They take an oath to support and defend the constitution if we the people want to be FREE we need to enforce the oath of office that they take on all of them.
Know one is above the law and there is know excuse.
We the people know them by what they are doing and saying good or bad.
They need to be put in jail for violating there oath of office that they take all of them.
    Violating Oath

The subject I am bringing to the table is “why do the American people allow their representatives to break oath of office (a federal crime) and not hold them accountable?
    ====================================================================================
This should be a non-partisan subject simply due to the fact this has been going on for long decades and both parties are guilty according to the law.

The scales could be tipped back somewhat if the public had awareness that the oath has teeth and voiced expectation that it be taken seriously.

A Federal Crime! Violating Their Oath; cause for removal from …
    Federal law regulating oath of office by government officials is … to A Federal Crime! Violating Their Oath;
The fourth federal law, 18 U.S.C. 1918 provides penalties for violation of oath office described in 5 U.S.C. 7311 which include: (1) removal from office and; (2) confinement or a fine.
Our form of government is defined by the Constitution of the United States. It can only be “altered” by constitutional amendment. Thus, according to Executive Order 10450 (and therefore 5 U.S. 7311) any act taken by government officials who have taken the oath of office prescribed by 5 U.S.C. 3331which alters the form of government other by amendment, is a criminal violation of the 5 U.S.C. 7311.

  9. The only thing I can say is the so called coward Sheriff and the corrupt F.B.I. killed those kids. they knew what that kid was going to do and they let it happen. The democrat left must think Americans are stupid and don’t know what there up to but we are learning ever day. The newspaper and the media will not tell us the truth about what the corrupt democrat left is up to.The only station that tells the truth is Fox News. If the real Americans don’t stand up to these scum bags they will take over this great country and make it there’s. Parents should find out who’s teaching their kids at school and let the teachers know they will be watching them. If it’s up to the democrat’s we will all be poor and they will be rich setting on there thrones telling us what to do. Don’t fall the lies fight back and keep our country free just like our fore fathers wanted for us.

  10. I get so sick and tired reading about how 17 lives were needlessly lost that terrible day, but nothing is mentioned about the millions of lives lost that same day and every day after. These babies were alive and pulled apart limb by limb. These babies can feel pain. They do cry out but nobody is listening.
Gun control is important, especially to those that have mental problems, but for those expectant mothers, they just need Love and Support.

    1. Sid I agree 100%. Stop killing babies by the thousands if you want to do some good . Leave the second amendment alone as without this one the others could be mute.

  11. There is not one member of the NRA ever said “I want people that can’t pass a back ground check or mentally defecient to possess a firearm ! Has not and will not happen !

  12. As an Apache I say the way the Federal Government controlled us is by taking away our weapons, making us wards of the government, not citizens until the June 1924 Indian Citizenship Act and keeping rifles away for us until 1979. Now they want all Americans to be wards of the government using the same tactics.
    The Founding Fathers on Guns
And one of the best Supreme Court Chief Justices

“A free people ought not only to be armed, but disciplined…”- George Washington, First Annual Address, to both House of Congress, January 8, 1790

“No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.”- Thomas Jefferson, Virginia Constitution, Draft 1, 1776

“I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery.” – Thomas Jefferson, letter to James Madison, January 30, 1787

“What country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance. Let them take arms.”- Thomas Jefferson, letter to James Madison, December 20, 1787

“The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes…. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.”- Thomas Jefferson (quoting 18th century criminologist Cesare Beccaria), 1774-1776

“A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks.” – Thomas Jefferson, letter to Peter Carr, August 19, 1785

“The Constitution of most of our states (and of the United States) assert that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed.”- Thomas Jefferson, letter to to John Cartwright, 5 June 1824

“On every occasion [of Constitutional interpretation] let us carry ourselves back to the time when the Constitution was adopted, recollect the spirit manifested in the debates, and instead of trying [to force] what meaning may be squeezed out of the text, or invented against it, [instead let us] conform to the probable one in which it was passed.”- Thomas Jefferson, letter to William Johnson, 12 June 1823

“I enclose you a list of the killed, wounded, and captives of the enemy from the commencement of hostilities at Lexington in April, 1775, until November, 1777, since which there has been no event of any consequence … I think that upon the whole it has been about one half the number lost by them, in some instances more, but in others less. This difference is ascribed to our superiority in taking aim when we fire; every soldier in our army having been intimate with his gun from his infancy.”- Thomas Jefferson, letter to Giovanni Fabbroni, June 8, 1778

They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.”- Benjamin Franklin, Historical Review of Pennsylvania, 1759

“To disarm the people…[i]s the most effectual way to enslave them.”- George Mason, referencing advice given to the British Parliament by Pennsylvania governor Sir William Keith, The Debates in the Several State Conventions on the Adoption of the Federal Constitution, June 14, 1788

“I ask who are the militia? They consist now of the whole people, except a few public officers.”- George Mason, Address to the Virginia Ratifying Convention, June 4, 1788

“Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed, as they are in almost every country in Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops.”- Noah Webster, An Examination of the Leading Principles of the Federal Constitution, October 10, 1787

“Besides the advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation, the existence of subordinate governments, to which the people are attached, and by which the militia officers are appointed, forms a barrier against the enterprises of ambition, more insurmountable than any which a simple government of any form can admit of.”- James Madison, Federalist No. 46, January 29, 1788

“Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves.”
    – William Pitt (the Younger), Speech in the House of Commons, November 18, 1783
“A militia when properly formed are in fact the people themselves…and include, according to the past and general usuage of the states, all men capable of bearing arms… “To preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them.”- Richard Henry Lee, Federal Farmer No. 18, January 25, 1788
“Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are ruined…. The great object is that every man be armed. Everyone who is able might have a gun.”- Patrick Henry, Speech to the Virginia Ratifying Convention, June 5, 1778

“This may be considered as the true palladium of liberty…. The right of self defense is the first law of nature: in most governments it has been the study of rulers to confine this right within the narrowest limits possible. Wherever standing armies are kept up, and the right of the people to keep and bear arms is, under any color or pretext whatsoever, prohibited, liberty, if not already annihilated, is on the brink of destruction.”
    – St. George Tucker, Blackstone’s Commentaries on the Laws of England, 1803

“The supposed quietude of a good man allures the ruffian; while on the other hand, arms, like law, discourage and keep the invader and the plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property. The balance of power is the scale of peace. The same balance would be preserved were all the world destitute of arms, for all would be alike; but since some will not, others dare not lay them aside. And while a single nation refuses to lay them down, it is proper that all should keep them up. Horrid mischief would ensue were one-half the world deprived of the use of them; for while avarice and ambition have a place in the heart of man, the weak will become a prey to the strong. The history of every age and nation establishes these truths, and facts need but little arguments when they prove themselves.”- Thomas Paine, “Thoughts on Defensive War” in Pennsylvania Magazine, July 1775

“The Constitution shall never be construed to prevent the people of the United States who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms.”- Samuel Adams, Massachusetts Ratifying Convention, 1788

“What, Sir, is the use of a militia? It is to prevent the establishment of a standing army, the bane of liberty …. Whenever Governments mean to invade the rights and liberties of the people, they always attempt to destroy the militia, in order to raise an army upon their ruins.”- Rep. Elbridge Gerry of Massachusetts, I Annals of Congress 750, August 17, 1789

“For it is a truth, which the experience of ages has attested, that the people are always most in danger when the means of injuring their rights are in the possession of those of whom they entertain the least suspicion.”
    – Alexander Hamilton, Federalist No. 25, December 21, 1787

“If the representatives of the people betray their constituents, there is then no resource left but in the exertion of that original right of self-defense which is paramount to all positive forms of government, and which against the usurpations of the national rulers, may be exerted with infinitely better prospect of success than against those of the rulers of an individual state. In a single state, if the persons intrusted with supreme power become usurpers, the different parcels, subdivisions, or districts of which it consists, having no distinct government in each, can take no regular measures for defense. The citizens must rush tumultuously to arms, without concert, without system, without resource; except in their courage and despair.”- Alexander Hamilton, Federalist No. 28

“[I]f circumstances should at any time oblige the government to form an army of any magnitude that army can never be formidable to the liberties of the people while there is a large body of citizens, little, if at all, inferior to them in discipline and the use of arms, who stand ready to defend their own rights and those of their fellow-citizens. This appears to me the only substitute that can be devised for a standing army, and the best possible security against it, if it should exist.”- Alexander Hamilton, Federalist No. 28, January 10, 1788

“As civil rulers, not having their duty to the people before them, may attempt to tyrannize, and as the military forces which must be occasionally raised to defend our country, might pervert their power to the injury of their fellow citizens, the people are confirmed by the article in their right to keep and bear their private arms.”- Tench Coxe, Philadelphia Federal Gazette, June 18, 1789

“The right of the citizens to keep and bear arms has justly been considered, as the palladium of the liberties of a republic; since it offers a strong moral check against the usurpation and arbitrary power of rulers; and will generally, even if these are successful in the first instance, enable the people to resist and triumph over them.”- Joseph Story, Supreme Court Chief Justice Commentaries on the Constitution of the United States, 1833

  13. Look at all the states that have destroyed the 2nd amendment . Bans on firearms and accessories, raising the legal age to buy, confiscation from “dangerous” people without die process. You can argue about repeal but this course of action makes the 2nd useless. A town in Illinois yesterday outlawed semi automatic firearms and gave citizens until june to turn them all in or pay a 1,000.00 per day fine. Expect to see lots more of this. There are not enough pro firearm people willing to fight this. It will take organization, and lots of money to fight the other side. Our side is not safe under Trump who promised to defend the 2nd but has endorsed banning bump stocks, raising the legal age to 21, and okay with confiscation without due process.

    1. Push shooters you know to join NRA. There are millions of shooters that want the freedoms NRA fights for yet are too cheap to spend a few bucks by joining.

  14. Democrats are the reason we have the second amendment. It’s to keep a would be tyrannical government in check. If the 2nd amendment goes so do all the others. If you don’t think they don’t want to take your guns just look at what happened in Deerfield, IL. The interesting thing is how do they plan on enforcing such a law?

  15. Our side was never safe UNDER anyone. All politicians are Human Farmers and those who stupidly vote for them are no
better than unknowing enablers. Trump card, tricked the whole country, and now is enshrined in the hall of shame with all the other infamous dictators.
When he said the 2nd would never be repealed he KNEW the States would as they are now rendering it useless
    .
The 2ndA was violated before the ink was dry. It was and is an instrument to slowly enslave us.
The first shot should have been fired when They wrote it. Permission for self defense ? WTF ?
Your next Free train ride will be in a box car.
The 2ndA is now an epitaph on the tomb stone of this country, on the back side they can put the “Con” -sititution & swill of rights. All now violated rubbish and salt in the wounds
    .
It should be posted everywhere as a tomb stone it is the last and supreme insult and betrayal, violation of oath and desecration of the flag. violation of all trust. No greater insult could be done to those in the military and those who gave all for this country.
And the same for every person who belongs to this country living or passed.

This country has only the future of the other countries that are being destroyed by war and immigration. ON purpose.
There can never be any forgiveness. The vile filth that runs this country who do not call out for the complete restoration
of the 2ndA and the prevention of the states and anyone from violating it are guilty of crimes against humanity.

It should serve as a warning to those who want to come here, that since this government has betrayed it’s own people
what do you think it will do to you ? The land of the betrayed and enslaved .

There can be no successful rebellion with firearms, the government would like us to try.
Protests are useless, we are outnumbered by 2/3rds of the population.
Cannot do anything that will hurt anyone as it will hurt us in the end more than them and get us more enemies.
The vote is useless as it always was and 1/3 rd will make no difference and another politician is only another traitor in waiting.
The present hold out states may last for awhile but those who run them will be set upon by the government to flip.
The latest trick of turning our children against us is a sign of depravity and that they will do anything to disarm us.

From the start and onward, every living thing by Nature is provided with some form of protection and self defense
adapting as need be. Independent of and before the gods and governments and words on paper which as of late hastened the need for improvements for survival. For Humans, Firearms , Which are now useless in getting our own country , free of a corrupt government. No other people of any other country has done it yet.
Firearms must be used with instinctive detection of danger and BS. We lost that.
Religion made us ask What would Jesus do ?
He who hesitates and violates instinctive self protection with BS loses.
    .
Human kind is the only living species that traded what Nature gave us for Rights on pieces of paper written by
con men , trusting we were safe and no longer had to preserve what Nature gave us , We are now the enslaved.
Our own kind will destroy us.

The government is the Trojan horse of every country. It is a terminal virus that enslaves the population which then
becomes a product for the government to feed on.

Of what worth are your words on paper IF your spoken words are not true ?
We forgot that, And This, ” Your life is your word and your word is your life “. No Words on Paper Needed.

    Comments Welcome, Be Safe.

  16. After all the rhetoric, it’s time to Repeal and Replace the 2nd Amendment with one that makes sense in today’s world. The Constitution provides for amendments so let’s do it the legal way. Conservatives should have no problem if it’s done legally; right? They they can’t always mouth off about the 2nd amendment any more.

  17. Protecting America and our Constitution should be paramount in EVERY American’s opinion. There seems to be a large number that do not support our Constitution or America. Ask yourself this one question. Why do you think the Democrats want our Constitution diluted to the point of eliminating the 2nd Amendment? The answer, Because they, the Democrats, are smart enough to know that armed citizen will not be herded into box cars willfully! The Democrats are a breath away from admitting that they are full blown Socialists/Communists, there is very minimal difference between the two. If you pull the teeth from a dog, his defenses are gone and resistance is futile. The Constitution allows for Americans to protect our families from enemies both foreign and DOMESTIC! Our forefathers saw this one coming. They knew that one day our government would be so morally bankrupt that a revolution might be needed, I guess. Hence, the 2nd Amendment to the rescue. Little Joey Biden said the Constitution is diltuted down so much that it does not mean what it used to mean. Little Joey Biden is so very wrong! It means more now than it EVER has! The wording has the same meaning as it always has with one huge difference, our government has decided it is time to take our country away from us. Armed citizens can fight back, and they most likely will fight back. So, disarm these citizens of the United States because of this shooting. After we disarm the general population, we can kill the veterans who know how to handle weapons. Then we can kill those who spoke out against us. We will move on down the “road of annihilation” to whom ever we deem necessary to destroy. This is what has happened historically where government disarmed their people. Research the countries that have disarmed their citizens and see how their Constitution or governing guidelines were treated.

  18. There is no need to repeal the 2nd Amendment. It is in its terminal stage by an old Chinese torture called “Death by a Thousand Cuts.” In that torture, a few cuts would be painful but not fatal. Eventually, however, after numerous cuts, the victim would die of shock and blood loss.

That is what every “reasonable” restriction on the 2nd Amendment is, one more cut that is bleeding the 2nd Amendment to death. And RINO phony Lindsey Graham has been one of the knife-wielders for years. Moreover, what the leftist torturers will refuse to believe is that the NRA is complicit in the 2nd ASmendment’s death by a thousand cuts by its constant approval of “reasonable” restrictions. The NRA leadership actually enjoys swimming in the fetid waters of the D.C. swamp.

  19. The Second Amendment doesn’t only protect us from criminals, it also protects us from a tyrannical government taking over. If the government repeals the Second Amendment then they can take all guns away from the law abiding citizens and leave only the government and criminals with guns. When the government became a dictatorship, the black market wouldn’t be able to keep up with the demand for guns by the people to revolt against the government. That is why the Democrats want to repeal the Second Amendment so they can disarm the citizens.
