If Americans knew then what they know now, President Barack Obama might have been impeached. That’s why President Donald Trump has been leveling attacks at the ex-president for his failure to intervene in the Russian propaganda machine during the 2016 elections.
In the midst of now proven wiretapping and external election meddling, Pres. Obama had this to say at the time:
“There is no serious person out there who would suggest somehow that you could even rig America’s elections, there’s no evidence that that has happened in the past or that it will happen this time, and so I’d invite Mr. Trump to stop whining and make his case to get votes.”
Pres. Trump recently threw Obama’s words back in his face on Twitter, also indicating that Pres. Obama may have let the Russians have their way believing the Democratic candidate would reach the White House.
“The President Obama quote just before election. That’s because he thought Crooked Hillary was going to win and he didn’t want to ‘rock the boat,'” Trump Tweeted. “When I easily won the Electoral College, the whole game changed and the Russian excuse became the narrative of the Dems.”
Pres. Trump’s latest twitter lashing of the Obama Administration comes on the heels of indictments by Special Counsel Robert Mueller with regards to the Russian investigation. The unsealing of those criminal allegations alleges that 13 individuals and at least three corporations plotted to disrupt the 2016 U.S. presidential elections and sow the seeds of discord in the American public.
Although Pres. Trump has called the Russia probe a “witch hunt” and “hoax,” the special counsel’s charges paint a picture of an active adversary that attempted to undermine several presidential hopefuls. These included the following:
Bernie Sanders: We have all heard about the Hillary takeover of the Democratic National Committee and many Americans believe the nomination was stolen from Bernie Sanders. But the Russian social media trolls were much kinder to Bernie. The Mueller report showed that Russian-related entities attempted to help boost his popularity. Despite getting more backing from the Russians than the DNC, Bernie had this to say on Twitter: “It has been clear to everyone (except Donald Trump) that Russia was deeply involved in the 2016 election and intends to be involved in 2018. It is the American people who should be deciding the political future of our country, not Mr. Putin and the Russian oligarchs.”
Jill Stein: The Green Party candidate also enjoyed a little help from her comrades, according to the special counsel indictment report. One Russian-related Facebook ad read: “Choose peace and vote for Jill Stein. Trust me, it’s not a wasted vote.”
Marco Rubio: Although Rubio and Pres. Trump appear to have patched things up after the nasty GOP primary and election, the Florida senator is finding out that the Russians have no love for him either. The report indicates that Sen. Rubio was the subject of Russian undermining during the primary.
Ted Cruz: Much like Sen. Rubio, Russian bots went after the conservative Texas senator as well. The Russians coordinated efforts with a Texas grassroots organization to undercut Sen. Cruz during the primary. The efforts were primarily designed to disparage Sen. Cruz on social media.
Hillary Clinton: Although much of the Russian meddling was designed to obstruct Hillary Clinton from reaching the White House, Pres. Obama sat on the information. The common wisdom is that Obama, the liberal-campaigning mainstream media and other Democrats believed the election was in the bag. Pres. Obama didn’t act or raise concerns until after Hillary lost.
Donald Trump: The initial efforts by Russian meddlers was to prop Pres. Trump up. The common thinking is that he would be more receptive to working with Russian Pres. Putin than Hillary, Cruz or Rubio. However, the Russians appear to have also helped organize anti-Trump rallies after being rebuffed by Trump. The “NOT My President” rally on Nov. 12 appears to have been orchestrated by the Russians.
The Russia probe has been a political football that has seen numerous fumbles. What Democrats thought would lead to impeachable “collusion” charges against Pres. Trump bounced into an improper FISA warrant investigation that ironically pointed to several high-ranking Obama Administration officials.
As Pres. Trump so aptly Tweeted: “Obama was President up to, and beyond, the 2016 Election. So why didn’t he do something about Russian meddling?”
At the end of the day, Pres. Obama had the duty to take steps and thwart Russian meddling. He chose to sit on his hands, his candidate lost, and he attempted to turn his busted political play into a gain.

No, if they did indeed support Trump’s efforts initially, it was entirely because he would be the easiest Republican candidate for Hillary to face. Or so they thought. Obama & the Clintons have been in the bag for Putin for a number of years, bought & paid for. They gave him everything he wanted. Why then would he want anyone BUT another Clinton in the White House? Short answer is he didn’t. Comey should be the first member of the swamp to be indicted. In front of our entire country, he disregarded federal law: USC18,793 F&G and USC18,2071. The law is clear and he obstructed justice. Later we learn that he had already “made a decision” not to bring Hillary up on charges, before she was interviewed on a 4th of July weekend.
