As President Joe Biden is sworn in promising and asking for unity, violence continues – from the left. Antifa riots on inauguration day took place in Seattle, Washington, and Portland, Oregon.
In Portland, the protests quickly turned to riots with nearly 200 of these “mostly peaceful protestors” swarming the Democratic Party headquarters, smashing windows, knocking over garbage cans, and even starting a fire in one of the garbage cans. They also vandalized the immigration and customs enforcement building in Portland.
The protestors included those who considered themselves anarchists, anti-fascists, and protestors in search of racial justice according to the New York Times. One message was clear of the protestors from the signs they carried. They don’t want Biden. They’re not even seeking justice. What they are after is “revenge.”
In Seattle, the protests included signs calling to abolish ICE along with calls for no presidents, prisons, borders, or cops. These protestors spray-painted buildings with anarchist symbols and smashed the windows of a federal courthouse.
One of the protests in Portland was along a more peaceful nature. This protest celebrated President Trump’s departure from office and called for the audience to continue exerting political pressure to enact the “Green New Deal,” Medicare for all, and address racial injustices committed by police.
In addition to smashing windows and trashing buildings in these two cities, protestors burned flags and clashed with the police. Some protestors help up umbrellas in an attempt to block the filming of their actions.
While these protests and others are beginning to make the news and Twitter has FINALLY decided to ban some Antifa-related accounts, smaller protests occurred in other areas. This included Denver, where a smaller group of “anti-fascists” marched on the capitol and burned an American flag.
In light of the Portland and Seattle riots, local residents have condemned the weak responses by local officials not just on inauguration day but throughout the summer as well when the cities were plagued by nightly protests — not to mention the establishment of an “autonomous zone” in Seattle.
The citizens want a stronger response from a government. However, authorities are missing the message by bending over backwards to try to accommodate these violent protests and the unwarranted destruction of property.
The bottom line is that it doesn’t matter if these people committing these crimes are arrested for their actions. They are immediately released and free to join the next round of riots the following night.
Fire the mayors and prosecutors lock up antifa and throw away the key and let them. Rot these are terrorists and should be treated as such
