Far-left students at the University of Georgia are clamoring for the university to remove Chick-Fil-A from the university premises, accusing the extremely popular fast-food restaurant of being a “white supremacist, imperialist, capitalist cult”.
Chick-Fil-A is also being accused of “exemplifying violence” due to the fact that it ostensibly uses unsustainably-sourced poultry for its meals, thus contributing to climate change by increasing greenhouse gas emissions. Other accusations include offering “demoralizing and difficult” factory jobs to people of color and immigrants in low-income communities, polluting the environment with its factories and using non-compostable packaging in the on-campus restaurant.
Additionally, the students who started the whole uproar are dragging up the old accusations that the restaurant engages in gender and LGBT discrimination simply because its owners embrace the traditional definition of marriage as being a union of a man and woman.
The students behind the accusations are members of the Athens Earth Strike Group, an environmental group with ties to socialist Democrats. Its demands are unclear, as one news outlet reported that the students are asking Chick-Fil-A to show its commitment to bettering the environment by discontinuing the use of Styrofoam cups, keeping its promise to serve hormone-free chicken at its restaurants and end factory farming — while at the same time, other sources note that the students want to kick Chick-Fil-A off the UGA campus for good. The restaurant did announce that it would stop using chickens raised in cages and instead purchase antibiotic-free chicken raised in barns but students rejected the overture, labeling it a “cheap marketing ploy”.
This isn’t the first time that Chick-Fil-A has been attacked by left-leaning activists. The chain was labeled a “cult” in 2007 by Forbes simply because Chick-Fil-A restaurants have a policy of closing on Sundays to allow workers to attend church. Chick-Fil-A CEO Dan Cathy was skewered by the mainstream media years later when he announced that he believed in the traditional definition of marriage as being between one man and one woman. Late last year, Rider University in New Jersey refused to allow Chick-Fil-A to open a restaurant on its campus even though the majority of Rider University students wanted a Chick-Fil-A there. The reason given was that Rider University did not agree with Chick-Fil-A’s “corporate values.”
Nonetheless, Chick-Fil-A probably has more supporters than haters. A number of University of Georgia students voiced support for the restaurant. Erin Cooke, a UGA student who worked at Chick-Fil-A in the past, reported that the company culture was not wasteful in the least. She also noted that Chick-Fil-A is the most popular restaurant on the campus, and that there would be an uproar from the student body if activists were successful in getting it kicked out. Devon Spiva, another UGA student, said he found Athens Earth Strike Group’s demand to be ridiculous, especially given the fact that the University of Georgia itself missed its own sustainability goals by miles.
Universities are meant to be educational institutions where students learn the skills they will need to find gainful employment upon graduation. Unfortunately, many university students don’t seem to remember the reason they are there in the first place, and are instead using their time to harass those who don’t agree with their politically correct views.
The fact that Chick-Fil-A refuses to be politically correct naturally angers left-leaning liberals who feel that no-one should be allowed to eat at a place that doesn’t wholeheartedly embrace gay marriage, fluid and multiple gender identities and organic chicken. While the Athens Earth Strike Group is perhaps one of the first student groups to try to kick an existing restaurant off campus for a variety of nonsensical reasons, there are plenty of other left-leaning organizations that are going out of their way to make life difficult for companies that don’t agree with them politically.
The move to demonize and ostracize corporations that don’t adhere to a far-left standard is a dangerous one in a nation that is supposed to embrace freedom of religion, thought and speech.

How many other “wack headed” groups are going to get press and publicity for their senseless demands and actions? Isn’t it time to take and put them back in their place (safely tucked away)? Their accusations and “solutions” have no merit and grounds to even be considered. As a nation, America needs to get its head on straight, follow its laws (based on a long history of being effective) and begin to reasonably (not according to the far left) deal with the problems at hand. Ask if those “Athens Earth Strike Groups” if they have ever tasted chicken from Chick-Fil-A. I have heard normal left and right citizens praise Chick-fil-A as the best tasting chicken they have ever eaten. They say it does not taste like “fast food”, not greasy. Also it is served by nice, friendly, respectful young people. Maybe Chick-Fil-A could identify them and hand out bites to them to taste, like the food court restaurant in the malls.

I thank the left wingers for making me get off of my butt and patronizing Chik-fil-a. I really enjoy the chicken sandwiches and the waffle fries. I never would’ve gone into a.
